Understanding How Homes Relate to Each Other & the Church

One of the key reasons for conflicts among different families as well as between families and churches is that people do not understand the jurisdictional lines between the "houses" God created. Each "house" must influence other "houses" in a positive manner without ever crossing over and undermining the authority of another "house." The "house" of the home must have the "church house" and the "state house" standing behind it, but the church & state must be careful to not undermine the home. Authority may at times be delegated; it must never be relinquished.

THIS IS A KEY MESSAGE TO HELP FAMILIES DEAL WITH UNDERMINING AUTHORITY FIGURES.

When Forgiveness Won't Work

There is confusion among many Christians about the matter of forgiveness because they do not realize that forgiveness has two sides. The first side is the side of the “forgiver.” Christians must forgive fully, freely, and forever. The second side is the side of the one being forgiven. To be offered forgiveness is one thing. To be able to receive the forgiveness offered is something else. Even though forgiveness is offered, FORGIVENESS WON’T WORK unless the one who has done the wrong is truly repentant. In the parable of the prodigal son, both sons were forgiven. But only one of them received forgiveness because only one of them was truly repentant! Those who encourage acceptance without repentance are really encouraging indulgence and enslavement. With repentance comes cleansing, restoration, and forgiveness.

How to Tell True Repentance

A common response when a person is first confronted with sin is defensiveness and lying. One of the worst things that can happen at that point is for him to find someone who will give him sympathy. Only true repentance provides a foundation upon which a life can be rebuilt after there have been broken dreams, hopes, and lives. Repentance does not stop all of sin’s consequences, but it can cut down on the reaping of some of them. Jesus gave us a picture of the proper attitude of repentance when He told the story of the Pharisee and the Publican. Though both were sinners, one was proud and the other humble. One was defensive, and the other offered no defense. Paul expounded further on true repentance by showing that the difference in true and false repentance relates to the difference between worldly sorrow and Godly sorrow.

How to Rebuild Broken Trust

No matter what I do, my parents will never trust me again!” “Pastor, I want to forgive my husband, but how can I ever trust him again?” “Isn’t trust the foundation of a relationship? How can we let our runaway daughter come back home if we can’t trust her?” Trust is like a beautiful vase that has been shattered into a thousand pieces. How do you get it back together? YOU DON’T TRY! Instead, you do the things you need to do, pay the price of TIME and TRUE REPENTANCE, and God Himself will perform a miracle and restore the vase in such a way that it will be as beautiful as a brand new vase! What broke the trust? Lies, deceitfulness, disloyalty, rebellion, unfaithfulness, irresponsibility, etc. What should you do? Be honest, open, truthful, sincere, accountable, loyal, humble, submissive, etc. This video also tells the story of how Dr. Davis’ daughter broke and then rebuilt her parents’ trust.

Nothing Shall Offend Them

A key verse every Christian should engraft into his life is Psalm 119:165: “Great peace have they which love thy law, and nothing shall offend them.” The Bible and human life are full of stories of people who became offended or took up someone else’s offense. True to the meaning of the word “offense,” which is “stumbling block,” those who become offended often stumble and fall or cause others to do so. David was a wise, gracious man who almost acted foolishly because he became offended at the unreasonable, ungrateful actions of the fool Nabal. But it is not only possible to get offended because of wrong actions. Many people get offended when someone does right! And some people get offended without any reason at all! For many years this was Dr. Davis’ most well known and requested message. Some consider it his most humorous message. Here you will learn the key principles necessary for Christians to live in harmony with one another.

How to Increase the Effectiveness of Your Counseling
Reg Price: $2.00

In this DVD, Dr. S.M. Davis sits in his office and speaks directly to pastors, counselors, and others about how to use his questionnaires and DVDs to help solve all types of family problems. He shares "secrets" how he personally counsels different people with different types of problems. A counselor can spend less time actually counseling because he sends home an hour or more of solid Biblical counseling that he doesn't need to take time to do because it's already done! MANY pastors and counselors have shared that they use Dr. Davis' DVDs regularly to help with their counseling and it saves them MANY HOURS of time.

Covered on this DVD:
  • How to Do Pre-Marital Counseling for a Bride and Groom.
  • Solving Marriage Problems for a Husband and Wife.
  • Help for Parents with Rebels.

For example: A couple comes in with Marriage Problems. You can see that anger is part of the root problem. Instead of you taking several hours to walk with them through how to deal with this problem of anger, you are able to send home the DVDs of
Anger the Destroyer and Freedom from the Spirit of Anger for them to watch over the next week. When they come back they share their notes and their discussions. You listen, share personal counsel, hold them accountable, then give more DVDs to watch over the next week.

What Bitterness Does

There are people spending fortunes trying to relieve their minds. What they really need to do is let God relieve their hearts of bitterness. Bitterness is a possibility for anyone. It is highly contagious. It is destructive. It stops spiritual growth and begins spiritual decline. It robs a Christian of his fruitfulness. It also blinds the bitter person to its presence and power.

In particular, bitterness:

1.Gives ground to demonic powers.

2.Shows you have the same root problem as the person who did you wrong.

3.Cuts you off from those you need.

4.Leads you toward moral failure.

5.Shows you have temporal values.

6.Feeds a curse coming down the generations.

7.Causes you to reject God.

Authority may at times be delegated; it must never be relinquished. For one "house" to cross the lines of authority drawn by God and undermine another "house" is as devastating as if the U. S. army were to cross over into Mexico and try to take land that belongs to that nation.

Repairing Really Rotten Relationships

Rotten relationships do not always have to remain that way! Certainly there are times when all you can do is make sure that your heart is right with the other person because their heart is never going to be right with you. But that is not always the case. The most strained relationship of your life may have the potential of developing into the most special relationship of your life if you would be willing to work on it. In Ruth and Naomi's case, Naomi should have been the one to take the initiative, but the opposite had to happen. The daughter-in-law had to be the one to reach out to the mother-in-law! Ruth didn't rebuke her mother-in-law. She simply gave love and loyalty to her no matter how Naomi responded.

To repair rotten relationships:

1.Don't follow natural inclinations.

2.Reach out to that difficult person.

3.Confirm your love by your speech and your actions.

Breaking Family Curses

Exodus 34:7 teaches that there will be a propensity toward either righteousness or sin being passed down from generation to generation. In different areas of life, people are blessed and do well because of Godly family influences. In other areas, they struggle because of evil family influences. Chains of bitterness, dishonesty, selfishness, pride, divorce, immorality, laziness, or rebellion pass down from grandfather to father to son to grandson, etc. Loyalty, faithfulness, kindness, honesty, joy, character, etc., also pass down! King Asa saw a curse of bitterness, stubbornness, rebellion, and idolatry in his family lineage and took desperate steps to break the curse and begin a lineage of blessings!

Running time: 69 minutes

“We shared your video with our family and our parents over Christmas and they were thrilled. Afterward, we knelt around the coffee table and Grandpa prayed for curses to stop and for God to bless our families. Tears of great joy filled our lives!”

How to Tell True Repentance

Dig Another Well

The person who “gives in” rather than demanding his rights is usually thought of as being the weaker. In reality, the more spiritually mature person will usually be the one who yields his rights. The man who “wins” when his personal rights have been violated is really the “loser.” In Gen. 26, Isaac had settled in Gerar and needed water. He had his servants dig a well. It was long, hard, dangerous, backbreaking work. Then the herdmen of Gerar said “the water is ours.” And Isaac said to his men, “It’s all right, fellows. DIG ANOTHER WELL!” Incredibly, the same thing happened a second time! The third well was named “Rehoboth” meaning “ample room.” The committed Christian should always ask, “Is this for me and my rights or for God and His rights?” Defend God’s rights. Yield yours! THE CHRISTIAN’S GREATEST RIGHT IS THE RIGHT TO NOT DEMAND HIS RIGHTS! FREE with this message on DVD ONLY is a second message (without graphics), “Jacob’s Meeting With God.”

Are you Offended or Unoffendable?

We are in a war and the enemy is out to stop you and defeat you. But he wants to do it in such a way that you will agree with him that it was justified. You will unwittingly accept defeat. And the way he’ll do it is with...offenses. Jesus promised you and me that "offenses will come."

It’s almost like God Himself deliberately offends people or allows others to offend them because He has a positive purpose in doing so. God does this to humble us so He can then give us His grace so He can exalt us. If the Syrophoenician woman had been easily offended she would have never found God’s healing for her daughter. When offenses come we either take them personally and get offended, or we say, “God is trying to give me grace so I can move forward in my Christian life!”

"The destiny God has for man unfolds or dies at the junction of offense.”

Anytime you hear of someone who has gotten offended, your next thought should be, “I wonder what phenomenal blessing God was about to give them that they’ve now lost out on!”
