Many people think of guilt as a bad thing. But guilt in itself isn’t bad. Guilt is a divine implant in the human soul to tell us when we’re about to do wrong, when we have done wrong, or that we better stop doing wrong.

Guilt that is not properly dealt with will consume and destroy the guilty person’s life. When Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery they thought they were solving their problem, but instead they found their lives consumed by guilt for the next forty years of their lives!

A very common problem people have is to try to deal with guilt without dealing with the sin that caused the guilt. But that is not possible because the sin and guilt are welded together by God.

How should someone make things right with someone they stole from or lied about? They should apologize, ask for forgiveness and pay back what they stole.
